We wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year! It was a stellar holiday at the Bistro. Our best month and year ever. And, that has been 63 as of New Year’s Eve when Jim Brady, my father-in-law, opened Detroit’s first Bistro in 1954 on 7 Mile and Greenfield. That “little bar” (only 65 seats, close to our inside now) was one of the most popular in the city and had lines waiting to get in (they waited outside guys…) and was one of the largest purchasers of alcoholic beverages in the state. Jim was really a first in the “farm to table” movement as he ordered from only local merchants. Meat, produce, staples and restaurant wares came from the home-grown companies of the era. He, and subsequently Tom, was fanatical to support the independent businesses. Wow, that is really something to reflect upon. They were certainly visionaries. How fortunate am I to be the matriarch of such an awesome and historical business? And, to have an incredible partner-chef in Sharon, and an amazing staff that “gets it” to make you happy. I AM A LUCKY GIRL!!!
Of course, the weather has been a bone of contention for us all. My poor pups have not been on a proper walk for weeks and are going stir crazy. I keep thinking that I’ll take them into town on the cleared walks but below 20 degrees doesn’t work. Not to mention the salt on their paws. It stings. Sometimes so much I’ll pick them both up (12 # in each arm) and have to lug them back to the car. Wouldn’t it be great to have a doggie park inside for these frigid temperatures? And, the horses have only been out for an hour or so at most. It is slippery and dangerous just to get them to the pastures. The barn is typically 15-20 degrees warmer than the outside due to the body heat of the horses. I’ll ride if it is 20 or above. There have not been too many days that it has though. I try to get Picasso and Z out for a walk in the arena at least to stretch their legs. I can’t wait for this weather to break!!!
I’m sad to share this news that our dear Nancy lost her 39 year old son Wednesday. Nancy and I have worked together for over 20 years and her loss is not only hers but all of us who admire and love her. Please say your prayers for her family and send good vibes her way.

YUM!!!
