And, another fine week it has been! I had a couple of nice rides on Z and walks with the pups over the 4th. Mom and I took a ride to the Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Holly to visit Dad, Plot 4-9999. The last one in the section. It was very quiet and although we brought a flag they are only allowed on Memorial Day. It is interesting to read the tomb stones… very few women Veterans, many Vietnam Vets, all faiths and 3 Alfred’s, my dad’s name. It was peaceful to spend some time there for both my Mom and I.
The Bistro is looking “buff” with its paint job. A nice freshening -up. It is important to Sharon and me to keep a “clean ship.” There are many things noticeable to us that you don’t see in the dim lighting that need to be addressed on a regular basis. When I walked in on Monday and saw everything off the walls, repair caulking being done, paint cans by the dozen I wondered if indeed it could be put together to open on Wednesday. It was and looks nice and clean. Next holiday, Labor Day, we’ll do the same with other projects that can’t be done during normal business hours.
Although we don’t cater often I couldn’t say no to my nephew Thomas’s party. He, like his brother John, a graduate of the International Academy, a public, tuition free school of choice for students across Oakland County. The IA was founded in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. The program is internationally accepted as qualification for entry into higher education and recognized through out the world with campuses in 140 countries teaching in English, Spanish or French Michigan’s school was established in 1992 with headquarters in Bloomfield Township and campuses in White Lake, Tommy’s school, and Troy. Students are required to earn a High School Diploma along with an International Baccalaureate Diploma. They also take classes in Language and Literature, Individual Societies, Sicences, Math and The Arts and write 3 hour exams on each in addition to their high school tests. Their motto is “A World of Learning.” 10-15% had attended a school overseas before enrolling in the IA. Justin Trudeau and Kesha are graduates along with many other notables. All my sister’s and their husbands were in town along with Deb, my sister-in-law and Juliana and Alfred her children. A fun time was had by all. Thomas is following in his brother’s foot steps, to MSU and James Madison College. I get to visit my alma mater for another 4 years. Congratulations to all graduates!! You should be proud.
Movie alert – saw Baby Driver with my bud JoAnn and loved it for the music, acting and suspense. WARNING: Violent but the character acting is 4 stars. It is not for the faint of heart, which I usually am. It was a random pick of a movie to see and I recommend it.
