And another fine week it has been! The weather has been great for riding and playing outside. Long walks in the park, shorter ones with the pups. I actually took Maddie, the baby of the puppy family at 7, on a 3 miler today and she trotted along like a trooper. Towards the end though she’d hunker down in the grass, splayed out, and say “I need a rest.” So, I got an extra bit of a workout myself, carrying her the last half mile to the car. Luckily she’s little and it wasn’t too tedious for me. We did get lots of comments from others on the path as to her mode of transportation. Lots of smiles and pets from them re-enforced her princess style of transport, me. She is full of herself and fitting into the Brady family jst fine. She is a fierce protector of the household, barking up a storm at any disturbance outside and will, at a mere 10#, take on anyone or anything that invades her territory. Then, once she is confident it is safe for all, lie on her back and shamelessly ask for a tummy rub. Niki just rolls her eyes…
Our dear Pauline is in town and last Sunday I had the “old” girls over for a little get together to spend some time with her. We’re “old” in the sense that we’ve been together for well over 25 years. We are sisters that didn’t grow up together but became dear friends and confidants. Noreen, Candy, Karen Schroeder and Josephine (really my sister but with us all the years too). A treat for all was having my mom there. They have known her as part of the fabric of the restaurant, along with my dad, since day one. I am forever grateful to them for the respect and care they have shown to her. Mom was in her glory! I am reminded of a quote from Richard Bach’s Illusions:
“The Bond that Links Your True Family
Is not one of Blood, but of Respect and joy in each other’s life.
Rarely do Members of one family Grow Up Under the same Roof.”
Speaking of OLD… last Monday was our 28th anniversary of opening in the Town Center. I can remember re-configuring the space, which was an Italian restaurant, into our own. Tom and I had built out, from the ground-up, the Southfield location 14 years earlier so this was easier because the “bones” were already there. And, the same for our little Bistro now. Another transfiguration of a Tex-Mex place. We’ve got the luck of the Irish!
