AND, ANOTHER FINE WEEK IT HAS BEEN…
Whew, a crazy week. We managed to by-pass the power outage at the Bistro. Thank You God! I’ve had to deal with 3 major outages in the last 30 years and it is a process that is intense and precise for insurances purposes. One that I am glad to circumvent this time. My mom, in Bloomfield Hills is off the grid. She is staying with Liz in Birmingham, thanks so much my sweet sister. I have been without electricity since Monday, but my generator is a life saver. I am so fortunate that Tom, 20 years ago decided to get a whole house generator. That was after an outage that he had to “feed” a gas eater in the barn for 6 days. He was done. Great decision my bud!
We also had to deal with a water boil alert from the City of Novi. What that means for us is no pop “guns” no water from taps, no water to wash produce, no, ice. So, we buy it all in cans and bags. We got it! Not our first Rodeo!
I always think about those who don’t have what we do. And, we complain that we don’t have power for a few days or water. Consider that a huge part of our world, here, in the States, and third world countries have sub-minimal existences with little or no water, food or shelter. Say a prayer of thanks for how you are able to live and one for those who are not as fortunate.
I can’t believe that September is here and the Labor Day weekend upon us. There’s lots to do around town starting today. Arts, Eats and Beats in Royal Oak, the Jazz Festival in Downtown Detroit and the State Fair right here in Novi. I’m going to lay back and be as lazy as possible. My life has been go-go-go for the last couple of weeks and I’m ready to chill with my pups. And, maybe there’s a movie in the future. I’m not a big TV watcher so being without cable for 5 days hasn’t bothered me except when I’m exercising. I do miss my cooking shows. Instead, I’ve been reading while on the treadmill. The time actually flies by. I just finished a great book, Horse, by Geraldine Brooks and am in the middle of Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, which is a good read too. So I’m sure that I’ll finish that over the next couple of days. I’m planning on grilling something and have a hankering for potato salad. There are still lots of green tomatoes so maybe I’ll fry some and pickle the rest for winter use. And, of course, corn in some form or another.
