Greetings From The Bistro!

Welcome to summer. Our beautiful deck is open and ready for you to enjoy lunch or dinner in the fresh air.  And remember, friendly pooches on lead are always welcome to join in on the al fresco dining.

Mostly, what I’d like to talk about in this news blitz is the pending closure of the restaurant. As many of you have heard Wal-Mart has purchased a large chuck of the mall and will soon start construction on a super store. The area to be plowed down extends from the east doors that once were Mervyn’s right through to the west side that we occupy. I have known for several years that there was going to be a major change that would affect us.  I’ve worked diligently to keep the doors open for as long as possible. It has been tough at times and very emotional as you might imagine. Over the last 19 years we’ve endured road closures, multiple new restaurants, giant movie complexes that “stole” all the movie traffic from our nice little theater next door, dips and valleys in the economy, 911 and the hardest, the loss of my husband and your friend, Tom.  Despite it all, it’s been a great run.

I’ve always considered myself fortunate to be in a business that I love.  My job is to nurture the most basic of human needs. Our restaurant has evolved into a neighborhood gathering place where families and friends can come together to smile, create memories and have fun. How lucky am I and my co-worker’s to have had this incredible opportunity to meet and share with you over the years? We’ve watched your babies grow to teens, to graduates and to now bringing in their son’s and daughter’s.  And the gram’s and gramp’s that have grandchildren in tow is a joy to see.  This isn’t work – it’s a party!  I see the staff with you and realize how much you are a part of their lives.  Know that each and everyone of us thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us be there for and with you.

As to the future – I am working with the management of the Town Center to relocate Diamond Jim’s to a spot close by.  I want to stay in Novi and will do my best to do so. I have provided jobs for 30 people for 19 years and feel a responsibility to continue to keep those jobs available.  There are no guarantees – but I’ll work hard to keep the 56 year old Brady tradition alive, well and close by.

The status on the pending construction is that it will begin in six to eight months.  As I learn details they’ll be passed on to you. There are no secrets. If I solidify a “deal” to move, you’ll know.

In the meantime, let’s continue having a great time, enjoying each other and creating those next memories.

XXOO, Mary
