I’m behind on filling you in what I’ve been up to outside of the Bistro. It’s been a busy few weeks, I celebrated my mom, spent time with the Hens, cooked, gardened and had a few dates with Michael.

The Hens and I went to Islandview Sauna Club in the East Village of Detroit. In the middle of an industrial area, a few tattered homes and some public gardens is a little oasis. A large army style tent greets you to change and get ready for your prebooked sauna time. There is a traditional wooden barrel sauna, a rusty Airstream and a small horse trailer converted to saunas, two cold plunge troughs and an outdoor shower. I’m not sure they will be open all summer, but I think on a cool night or come this fall it will be fabulous again. We enjoyed the firepit, our usual bubbles and some snacks back at my place after.

Mother’s Day was spent on my mom’s deck enjoying the sunshine. Christine made a delicious spring salad, and I made a chilled pea soup. We planted mom’s flowers and watched Remarkably Bright Creatures with Sally Field… a sweet book I had enjoyed turned into a Netflix movie. I’m so lucky to have such a loving, sweet, selfless mother! She’s the best!

Last week Michael and I went to an exclusive wine dinner at ALEO, the Bed & Breakfast inside The Shepherd in East Village. Chef Jason Berthold of Father Forgive Me paired his delicious menu with the wines of Arnot-Roberts. Duncan, the wine maker, was the skilled host of this super intimate experience in a charming B&B with stellar wines, surrounded by art and interesting fun people. Loved it!

Friday, Bestie Sara and I woke early to hit the city-wide garage sale in Huntington Woods. I love a bougee neighborhood and I’m crazy for a bargain. I found loads of things… my favorites are the two wood block prints from Australian artist Don Ross from 1969. A steal at 20$ a pop!
Speaking of bougee, the Hens and I had a kaftan party. I bought mine way back in January and I was so excited to dress it up with a big hat and too many necklaces! Thank you Nancy Cote for my accessories!! Hen Sandra’s kaftans had been worn by her mother back in the 60’s. I love vintage and these were extra special to see back in action. I think her mother would have loved to see them shine again.

Memorial Day can mean a quiet weekend at the Bistro so feel free to drop in without a reservation if need be, especially Saturday when folks tend to be heading North.

Cheers,
Sharon
