Bistro Newsletter

Between trying to avoid lettuce explosive “you know what” and smoke from the Canadian wildfires… it’s been a crazy week here at the Bistro. Lettuce is back on the menu (we never serve iceberg, so we were ok all along) and the patios are open again. Thank goodness, as there was no patio service last Friday, and that made for a rough night at the door. I felt very sorry for Jacob and Alida who had to try to make so many people happy with half the seats we normally have. But don’t worry, we are back to regular service. On top of a hectic Bistro work week, I personally have been busy with my extended family enjoying our summer together. 


We visited Chef Max with his That’s That Pizza Cart at the Birmingham Farmer’s Market on Sunday morning. Chef makes killer pizza! You can find him at the Market every other Sunday, he’ll be there next on August 2nd. It’s worth the trip to Birmingham and the market is small but active. Also check out the cheese guy there… his cheeses were awesome. 


My family and I visited Cranbrook and toured the Sarrinen House as well. Our tour guide Matt was full of knowledge of the grounds and the original founders, the Booth family. The house itself is not too large, and you only get to tour a small section of the house as someone still lives in part of the home, but I did find the history of the architect and his designer wife interesting. I think I would rather see the Smith House, which is designed by Frank Loyd Wright, but we only had time for a drive by…. next time!
