It’s been an exciting week here at the Bistro!
Server/Manager Amanda & her husband Paco (former chef for us) welcomed their second baby girl Kataleya into the world September 15th, Sunday morning at 2:54 am. She weighed 7 lbs. and 2.5 oz, 19 ½ inches long with lots of dark wavy hair. She is a beautiful, healthy baby girl who so far looks identical to her older sister Lotus. Kataleya is Spanish for Orchid, so her name honors her Mexican heritage and fulfills Amada’s peaceful hippy flower vibe. We love her already… but I will most certainly miss her mommy while she is out on maternity leave. New isinglass curtains were hung on the west patio as well, they are longer and have smaller plastic “windows” which means more fabric, we are hoping they help keep the patios toastier this winter. It’s a large financial investment but your comfort is important to us. I’m looking at cushions for the outside chairs to make it even cozier. Wednesday, hundreds of restaurant workers went to Lansing to protest the upcoming loss of the tip credit act. I was disappointed to see there was not more news coverage on the event as some of the changes the state is making to Michigan labor rules will negatively impact restaurants and their workers. See this link below to learn more about how this bill will affect our industry. https://www.mlive.com/news/2024/08/customers-and-workers-will-pay-the-price-of-cutting-tipped-wages-michigan-restaurant-owners-say.html#:~:text=A%20recent%20survey%20from%20the,tip%20credit%20for%20Michigan%20workers Between coming back from covid, HORRIBLE construction EVERYWHERE, the economy, a sketchy election year, and rising costs for everything; this year and last year have been tough economically. We do not need another nail in the hospitality coffin. There is a huge reason you are seeing more chain restaurants than small locally owned places, lots of restaurants closing, offering shorter operating hours and rising menu costs. We’ve done our part here to keep our prices lower than the norm and on this last menu change only a very few items were raised by 1$. We’re shopping smarter and working harder… for you! We would all like to thank YOU for fighting the traffic and spending your hard-earned money here and supporting the Bistro!!!! We love you for it!!! Cheers, Sharon
