This last week has been a lesson in patience and strength in character for me. Running the Bistro is invigorating, inspiring and exciting… normally. Last week was exhausting. Chef Max was in Germany, on his well-deserved vacation, however, his daily managerial tasks fall on my shoulders while he is away, adding to my lists of daily tasks. I worked in the kitchen as well, which reminds me how old I am… how much fun it is back there, how cool my kitchen crew are and how much I need to appreciate them every day. Chef and the gang KILL it on a regular basis. I, on the other hand, needed a long Epsom salt bath after my long shift. I did, however, truly enjoy the comradery back there. The teamwork and concentration it takes to run a smooth shift is incredible. Meanwhile, the jokes are nonstop, and the humor is on the level of a 14-year-old boy and honestly, that suits me perfectly. I miss the energy of working in the kitchen every day. Welcome home Chef! We REALLY missed you.

We’ve had some heating issues, repairs are underway, but certainly a lesson in patience waiting for a part to arrive. The music player went down, lucky for me, I have a much smarter and younger Amanda to figure it out. She literally fixed it better than the Spectrum employee could?!?!

Some of you may have heard, Whisper fell at work a few weeks ago while at work and shattered her shoulder. Unfortunately for Whisper, she will not be returning to work for months. Not only is her shoulder painful, but the break doesn’t allow her to do even simple tasks like washing her own hair. She has a long road of serious PT in front of her. Please send her your good thoughts and healing prayers. Working with insurance, workman’s comp and coordinating things was a lesson for me as we have not experienced a claim before and certainly a reminder of how important our health is. Whisper, we miss you, and we are all wishing you a speedy recovery and look forward to when you return.

On a personal adventure my mom and I spent the afternoon in Pontiac at the Social Security office. DEFINITELY a lesson in patience, yet another opportunity for gratefulness. So many people are struggling these days, and Mom and I talked about how fortunate we have been in our lives. Healthy enough, mentally and physically, to have the opportunity to work is often taken for granted. I don’t know what I would do without the Bistro. Not only is it my income, but it is what sustains me mentally as well. The warm energy and the kind people always make the little life lessons thrown at me bearable. I hope you find joy, appreciation and peace in the daily tasks, the tough moments, the “meh” days.

Cheers,
Sharon
