Bistro Newsletter

Hi everyone… I’m back from my hiatus! Sorry I missed last week’s Newsletter. I remember last year when I first started writing the Newsletter, a guest, and now my dear friend, said to me that I shouldn’t get myself locked into writing one every week. It was too much work, he said, don’t get trapped, do your own thing. Well…. It’s too late Lee. Now even I look forward to sitting down in the office and thinking about my week and putting it to paper. Looking back helps to not let time slip away so quickly and adds a layer of appreciation. I’m currently appreciating my good health.

I couldn’t type because I had vertigo. While doing Yoga on Tuesday last week, the world flipped upside down. I thought the blood had just rushed from my head and went about my day. While at work that afternoon my eyes seemed to never quite focus, I just kept thinking it was my glasses. I felt drained too, like maybe a bad hangover might feel (I of course wouldn’t know “exactly” how that feels) so I went home a little early. I woke up in the middle of the night and the world was spinning, I was white as a ghost, pasty and sweaty. I thought I was possibly having a heart attack. I’ve heard women have very different cardiac symptoms and I’ve never experienced anything like that before. My sweet hubby assured me I wasn’t dying. But I couldn’t move my head without getting sick, so I slept on the hard wood floor over night.

Off to a nauseating ride to urgent care in the morning and I was diagnosed with vertigo from BPPV based on a quick eye exam. Basically, that means that somehow the crystals that are naturally in your ear to keep you balanced move into the inner ear and in the wrong position. It can come from head trauma, infection or just because. It happens to women more than men and especially after 50. The treatment for BPPV is to do these head roll exercises to move the crystals back. I kept picturing those handheld games where you would try to get the little steel ball in the hole. If you’re under 50, you might not get that reference. I missed two days of work, returned last Friday (too soon really), motion sickness pills and anti-nausea pills kept me sane for the rest of the time. Today is the first day I have felt like myself. Yuck to vertigo. Appreciate your good health… it’s not always around.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Our menu this weekend includes a Bistro Father’s Day tradition… a ridiculously big hot dog.  My dad would have enjoyed one Detroit Style with a ripping cold Goebal while he watched the Tigers. Miss you all the time Dad, hope I’m making you proud.

Love,
Peanut
