The last few weeks of winter were busy ones for me. I’ve been trying to stay active with more time on the Pickle Ball courts, Monday Night Yoga classes with the Hens accompanied by Singing Bowl Meditation and a day of pampering at The Schvitz. Brisket got her own day of “pampering” as we visited my sister, Dr. Christine, at The Washtenaw Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor. This was our first visit to Christine’s new place of employment. Of course, I was impressed with the quality of care, but the facility is beautiful with new state-of-the-art equipment. Brisket is a Michigan Humane Society Mutt and right after we adopted her, as a young dog, we discovered she had hip dysplasia. We chose not to have her undergo surgery. Brisket had been left in a crate for far too long before we rescued her, and I just couldn’t put her through the long healing time and more crate time post-surgery. She was so full of energy that containing her for an extended period sounded like torture. So, we’ve been monitoring her hips her whole life. She does quite well with the care she’s received but sometimes we need to keep an extra eye on her liver as pain and anti-inflammatory meds can be hard on a dog’s liver. Good news, her ultrasound was clear! Brisket was thrilled that the clinic provided lots of treats and is right next to a big park she can run around in. And she was very happy to see her Auntie. Two paws up she says!!

All this activity needs to be accompanied by food and drink, so I have been out to lots of fun restaurants lately. Lunch in Ann Arbor was Mediterrano… fabulous fresh food just down the street from Christine’s clinic. I love Taramasalata and rarely see it on a menu, they serve it with their bread plate. Delicious with a fresh beet salad. I had a second lunch on my return visit to AA at Spiedo. This funky little “wraps and bowls” shop was super tasty. My tofu wrap was full of flavor, spice and crunch. Very on trend with their global menu. After Yoga date with the Hens at The Oak Parker where the cocktails are the highlight is always a hit with us girls. Mom and I had a stellar lunch at Luxe in Birmingham. I’m amazed at how many seats they have crammed into this Birmingham hot spot, and I’m always impressed with the bartender. She seems to know EVERYONE who sits at her bar… sign of a great bartender. Mom kicked my butt in Canasta (again), and we had Walleye & Grilled Veggies at home with Michael. The Schvitz has a full kitchen, and I’ve heard the Rib Eye is amazing, but I’ve never had anything beyond a salad and their scrumptious French Fries so that night after a day of pampering, required cooking at home… Shrimp Fresh Rolls and Soy Glazed Wolffish was healthy, easy and delicious.

Sheeze, I’m exhausted AND full just writing all that! Let me know if you’ve found any hidden gems recently, I’m always interested in trying new spots.

Cheers,
Sharon
