Keeping up with a healthy January has only been a real struggle one or two days. I blame our server Jessica for bringing in her homemade cookies. Looks like I wasn’t quite “done” yet. Sweets are a problem for me. My old sous chef Greg used to set out our cookie dough, and he would time how long it would take me to find it. He called it “Sharon bait”. One day at a time… isn’t that the saying?!?!? But I have  managed to stay dry thanks to mocktails and soda water. Michael and I have enjoyed the challenge of cooking healthy together and making better decisions at restaurants. We chose Ima in Corktown for our date night this week. We ate seafood and a few vegetarian dishes and ordered from their mocktail list. Ima has had lots of good press, James Beard awards etc. Our server was very nice, the seating is terribly uncomfortable on a slippery long bench style “log”. I think that is a sign I’m getting old when I complain about the chairs. The food was a mixed bag from really good to just okay. I will give it another try when I’m in a better head space. It may just have been me; I went with high expectations AND I didn’t exactly order what I may have really been craving.

Our second date night of cooking together at home, inspired tonight’s Chalkboard Feature. Sauteed Walleye topped with braised heart healthy northern beans, kale, garlic & lemon. No butter, No flour, light salt with lots of olive oil and herbs instead. Sparkling Pellegrino water and a game of Exploding Kittens kept us entertained.

We’re headed to San Diego today. All bets are off while on vacation. I’ve heard the Mexican cuisine is amazing. I can’t wait to dive into a margarita on the beach with some authentic street tacos. A girl can’t be all good right?!?

Cheers,
Sharon
