You might notice I have two wines from the same producer on the Chalkboard Features this weekend. Michael has been doing business with the Parentini family for over 20 years. Our friend, Giulio Parentini is a third-generation wine producer in Italy. The Moris family moved from Spain to Tuscany nearly 300 years ago so they know “a little something about farming”. Giulio, his father and his cousin have turned his grandfather’s winery into a beautifully landscaped vacation destination with world class wines. You’ve seen their Super Tuscan “Avvoltore” on my wine list for years, now is a chance to try some of their other wines, made with the same passion and care but priced at an everyday wine price. Michael and I visited the estate almost 19 years ago. Michael was even luckier to return for Giulio’s wedding to the talented and beautiful Janie. She has brought an American touch of hospitality to their Terrazza Wine Bar right at the heart of the Vineyard.

When Michael and I visited the winery, we were fortunate enough to stay at one of the villas. The grounds were filled with Olive Trees (their olive oil is some of the best I’ve ever had), Cyprus Trees and Wild Boar. I even got a lesson from an Italian Nonna on how to make Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli which we served for lunch with Cinghiale (wild boar). Giulio gave us not only a tour of the winery but of the coastal town of Massa Maritima in Maremma as well. He is a delightful man full of boyish charisma and charm but a serious eye to wine making and running a vineyard. Walking through the town, most everyone seemed to know Giulio but as always, he was humble and kind wherever we traveled. The village was full of history, old churches, busy piazzas and stunning views.

Forgive me for the old pictures… these were from digital camera days, you can see better pics on their Instagram @morisfarms @terrazzamoris

I hope you enjoy the wines and get a taste of Maremma, maybe one day you’ll even give them a visit!

Cheers,
Sharon
