I know we all hate the ongoing construction… from Meadowbrook, 8 Mile, Novi Road, 96 and 696 there is construction. That basically means we are surrounded by orange barrels! Ugh, not great for any business in the area. The bistro is doing fine but the construction certainly has put a damper on what should be a booming season. I’m asking if you’ve recently had a stellar experience with food or service here, please feel free to write a quick review or give us some stars on your social media of choice. Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google, Facebook, Instagram… doesn’t matter which platform you choose, if you mention an employee by name, I can recognize their performance and reward them individually as well. We appreciate you recommending us to your friends and family! Word of mouth is still our number one asset.

Speaking of social media, Michael, Brisket and I snuck away last Sunday to Getaway The Thumb. I found these tiny little cute trailers on Instagram, and we booked for one night only. They are a “glamping” site in Columbiaville, Michigan about an hour north of where we live (perfectly close by but just far enough). We drove up 24 through Oxford (cute town where Michael found my engagement ring 15 years ago…) and we stopped in Metamora for lunch at The White Horse Inn. The historical Inn has been around since the 1880s and in 2014 it was restored to the beauty that it is today. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a nice cocktail and lunch. Staff was super friendly and even gave Brisket grilled cheese bites. Two paws up she says!

After lunch we headed to our spot in the woods. The “cabin” is perfect for a romantic getaway. Since we rented it before their real season began it was a steal at 100$ per night (50$ extra for the pooch). Every detail is well thought out. The bedding is soft, the dishes were great for camping, the knives were actually sharp and they even supply wood and fire starter for your firepit. The 200 square foot cabin comes equipped with air and heat, a small fridge and 2 burner stovetop, a small but clean bathroom and a huge window over the queen bed to look out into nature where we immediately spotted a deer and enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Joseph Perrier Cuvee Brut Rosé. They even have a lockbox to stow your phones so you can tune out… I loved every minute of it! Getaway Cabins are all over the United States (they got their claim to fame on Shark Tank) and no matter where you book you get the exact same amenities. I plan on checking out their 2nd Michigan site near Grand Rapids this fall.

We spent the second half of our first day at the boat launch in Columbiaville, people watching and swimming with the dog. The evening was spent by the fire enjoying charcuterie (Brisket stole all the Port Salut cheese!) a really special bottle of Jean-Luis Chave Syrah from the Rhone and killer lamb chops. In the morning we hiked a nearby nature sanctuary, drove to Buttercup Beach for a swim and headed home. A quick stop for tacos at Honcho in Clarkston finished off our very enjoyable romantic getaway. Looking forward to hitting the road again as soon as possible. Life is short… soak it up!
Cheers,
Sharon
