Last weekend my husband, Michael, and I joined our friends in Wellston, Michigan for our annual winter paddle down the Pine River. The Pine is our favorite river, as it is fast and clean with scenic views. Michael and I have been camping at Coolwater Campground and canoeing the Pine every summer for nearly 25 years. This is only our 3rd winter paddle, but it is quickly becoming a tradition. The water is crystal clear and the views are amazing. The paddle is swift… just enough time for lots of laughs, stories of past pine river trips and a few warm drinks. This year we added a little more time to our float as we got stuck on a boulder for a bit. Michael is an expert paddler, but the river can be tricky... or he just wanted us to enjoy our drinks and soak in the views for a little longer! In our 2nd boat of friends was our guide Jake, from Pine River Paddlesport Center and his dog Hoxey. I highly recommend booking with this first-class family-owned establishment. We finished with a challenging, but beautiful, snowy hike back to our cars. The outdoor hot tub and fire pit were ready back at the log cabin we rented, and our night was filled with great friends, lots of food, wine and games. Pure Michigan!
As promised more pictures… less words.
