Dream Cruise is this weekend. I’ve never been a big car fan… my first car was a crappy 84 or 85 Ford Tempo, so I certainly don’t have any nostalgic feeling for my first ride. I do admire some classic automobiles but being a Royal Oak resident has soured me on the Cruise experience. I usually try to avoid Woodward for the entire month of August, and with half of it under construction, I suspect it will be even more congested. However, I think most Detroiters disagree with me and love the Cruise… it is always jammed packed with people from all over the state. I’m expecting we might be a little quiet this weekend, so we brought in a few of our house favorites for the chalkboard features to tempt you in for dinner. First item is our appetizer… Fried Clam Strips. These are wild harvested from Gloucester, Maine and come in fresh, never frozen. We dust them in a hint of Seasoned Flour & let the natural flavor of the clam shine. Mary Brady used to always say these are better than Howard Johnson’s… that’s before my time, I wouldn’t know, but I’ll trust her on that one.

The second feature is Skate Wing. This is a decadent dish that I rarely see come across my fish mongers list. Skate is in the stingray family and the part we eat is the “wing”. I think it has a flavor similar to scallops and the texture of crab. Skate consumes both these shellfish in its diet. It is a very perishable item, so I only order a few pounds at a time. I won’t be surprised if we sell out on Friday night. I suggest you come early if you want to guarantee yourself an order.

The last two items are Ahi Tuna seared rare over squishy soft Udon Noodles swimming in miso broth. I love Japanese food; their cooking style is simple and “clean”. Lastly Max’s Big Wet Burrito is quickly becoming a house favorite… just the opposite of simple & “clean” … this baby is perfect for a hangover, an emotional crisis or just because you deserve it!

I hope you enjoy our efforts this weekend and if you decide to cruise, drive safe and enjoy the day!
