Last weekend we celebrated my husband Michael’s birthday. At 56, Michael is a cross between a young wild boy and an old man… not quite a curmudgeon…yet. Haha sorry boo!! His “mature” man tastes come in the food and restaurants he chooses… old school Italian or classic steak house, his love for 60 & 70’s rock. He doesn’t like joggers or tapered jeans and prefers a classic pair of Levis. He rarely gets a haircut and never wants to ever ever have a “hairdo”. He likes action movies with Dolph Lundgren & Charles Bronson, westerns with Clint Eastwood, his 1968 Gibson SG and could listen to and play the Beatles every day. He usually drinks Labatt in a can over stinky hip craft beer when he’s not sipping a classic French Chardonnay. And yes, he still wears long cargo shorts, but I’m working on that one! Michael takes pride in his lawn “skills” and comments when our neighbors’ lawn is looking long. He treats women with respect (especially my mom), is always polite, admires anyone who has served in our military and enjoys reading the paper every day and being informed in politics.

Young Michael… loves MUCH younger Sharon, paintball with 25-year-old athletic kids, Margarita Saturdays with the guys, tent camping, biking into downtown Royal Oak, live music, softball, video games, canoeing, charcuterie boards, pickle ball, & natural biodynamic wines (I’m trying to think of currently trendy things he likes… it’s not many and this paragraph needs to be longer or I’ll be in the dog house). Young Michael is open-minded, non-judgmental, sweet and an animal lover.

I’m deeply in love with both versions of this complex man. Friday night, we celebrated “old Michael” downtown at The London Chop House with a terrific steak, smooth jazz, a bottle of Margaux and a fat bill at the end. Sunday, “young Michael” and I partied with our friends at our annual softball game and gourmet hot dog bar. Needless to say, our “young” selves felt a wee bit worn down and sore the next day. Ooof…​
