I was lucky enough to see the final performance of To Kill a Mockingbird at the Fisher Theater with my Bestie a few weeks ago. It was a fabulous production, very simple but just as strong and emotionally charged as I remember when I first read Harper Lee’s book many years ago. It was required in my High School class (shout out to Mrs. Dorrian), and I read it again in my 30’s for pleasure. John Boy from the Waltons (Richard Thomas) led the cast in the role of Atticus Finch. His presence on stage was as strong as his voice.
Speaking of the theatre, my niece Elsa is performing in Little Shop of Horrors as one of the “do-wop” girls. Of the 80 or so cast members. She is one of only eight people miked, the rest of the cast are considered ensemble. Elsa can sing, draw, paint, play piano & guitar AND act… she’s a pretty impressive young lady. Of course, her Grammy (my mom, Sandra) flew to Scotland to see Elsa in her second live stage performance. Mom took her siblings with her. I’m amazed at my mom traveling across the globe to celebrate her granddaughter. I’ll miss you at Easter mamma… but I’m so happy you are there!
