Michael and I had a fabulous date night last Thursday. After service here at the Bistro we headed down to the Book Tower in Detroit. Built in 1916, this building with its copper roof, has a unique and gothic look to it. At one time it was the tallest building in Detroit. The architectural style is Italian Renaissance… Michael thinks it looks like Batman’s Gotham City manor. The building has been abandoned since 2009, until Dan Gilbert invested a fortune and seven years of renovation. The “lobby” and bar, with its gorgeous skylight, are not to be missed if you visit. After a stroll, we headed into Le Supréme.  This Brasserie style Parisian restaurant opened in the Book Tower less than a year ago and I was impressed from the moment we walked in.

At 9 PM the restaurant was full and still bustling. We grabbed a seat at the pewter topped bar and dove into their extensive French wine list. Hard to find anything for under 100 but still a lovely list. The ambiance is cozy and romantic. The food was classically executed in the French style. I personally loved the Country Style Pâté and the Beef Burgundy.

Michael enjoyed the Foie Gras Torchon and Oysters. Service was friendly and attentive at the bar. One of our top dining experiences we’ve had this year.

Someone asked me once why I would write about another restaurant in my newsletter. This business is hard, and I think if you’re doing something right you should be recognized by your peers. Additionally, I enjoy sharing my adventures out and I especially love recommending independent establishments. Many local chefs/restauranteurs have become friends. It’s a small world in the fine dining scene in Metro Detroit. I’m proud to be a part of it. I LOVE dining out, I always have. I’m certainly inspired by other chefs’ ideas, and I will always consider myself a student of the hospitality business.

I think of our little Bistro as a hidden gem. We may not always get the attention of the press or be known as the “hippest” spot in the area, but I truly love hovering just under the radar. Often, guests come in with few expectations and leave impressed by our quirky strip mall Bistro. I’ve got an amazing team here. When I compare the Bistro to high-end swanky places, I think to myself how lucky I am to be surrounded by a team of professionals and so many gracious guests in such a comfortable, casual atmosphere. I can honestly tell you that every day I receive a compliment on our food or service. Every day one of you makes me smile or laugh. I’ve never had more fun or felt more satisfaction from any “job”. I’ve made so many new and interesting friends, working in the dining room, getting to know you. I hope you feel the genuine love and passion we all have for what we do. Thank you for your love and support and for keeping it FUN!

Cheers,
Sharon
