Greeting form the Bistro!

And, another fine week it has been. The Pups are digging hanging outside with me while I work in gardens. Poor Pico has to be long lead as he’ll disappear into the woods after squirrels, chipmunks or the next door cat, Boots. All of which can outrun him by leaps and bounds. Niki could care less about any of it and just works on her tan. Z and I have had some great rides this week and he and his horse buds are totally getting into the pasture grasses that are lush and green thanks to the recent rains.  And, fun news, Sharon and her hubby Michael have a new dog, Brisket, who they rescued from the Detroit Animal Shelter last week. She made her debut at the Bistro a few days ago and behaved herself like a lady should!  Dogs are welcome on the front patio if seating is available. We’ve had a couple visitors lately.

June 14th, Tuesday, is Flag Day which commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777. The flag has been modified 26 times since the first one but still has 13 alternating red and white strips, representing the 13 British Colonies who declared their independence from England, and a white 5-point star on a blue backround for each state. Although it is not a national holiday it is celebrated as such in many states. It is also the day the American Legion posts through out the U.S. dispose of worn and tattered flags “in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”  Also, all flags used on graves at Veteran’s Memorial cemeteries are destroyed on Flag Day. The United States Army also celebrates its birthday on this day. Interestingly enough I was straightening up my barn and came across a centennial flag from 1976 that the former owners of my property left behind. I braved a very tall ladder climb and it now hangs proudly on the barn.

Meals on Wheels did another pick-up as the lobby was full again. I can’t tell you how much your donations, cash or food, are appreciated.  My sister Josephine an AVON District Sales Manager is raising funds for the Pet Pantry by donating 100% of profits generated through the sale of Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus. The cost is $7 a bottle. You can order by calling Jo at 248-303-5245. We’ll have some available at the Bistro too.

Next Sunday we’ll celebrate Father’s Day at the Bistro with a special “Dad” menu and drink specials.   Reservations are accepted and we will be open for normal hours with brunch served 11-4.

Speaking of specials, Sharon and our kitchen staff have outdone themselves again!! Our Board Features this week include Beautiful West Coast Halibut Pan Seared and served with a Double Onion Tart and Sautéed Spinach; Lamb Stew with Celery Root, Leeks and Carrots over Buttermilk Mashers; A Grilled 10 ounce Boneless Pork Chop accompanied with a Jumble of Butternut Squash, Dates, Fingerlings and House made Michigan Brown Ale Mustard and Lastly Lightly Blackened Mississippi Catfish Presented with Cajun Rice, Sautéed Greens and Roasted Tomato Salsa. YUM!!!
We look forward to seeing you at the Bistro!!!
And remember –
“It’s Another Million Dollar Day”
