GREETING FROM THE BISTRO!   Mary's blog and Sharon's chalkboard features

And another fine week it has been. I had a great Labor Day holiday visit with my sister Marjorie in Atlanta. It takes me less than an hour to park, get through security and to the gate from my house to Flint Bishop airport. A no brainer. I feel like a real small town person, well I am, leaving from such an itsy-bitsy airfield. And the flight is only 90 minutes. A long time family friend met us and we headed to the Blue Ridge mountains for 2 nights. We spent the first day kayaking on the Toccoa river which was moving fast due to a release of dam water by the Tennessee Valley Authority. If you wanted to just float down you could, we paddled and had a blast. There was no chance to sip a beer or wine… it was work. The following day was a 2 hour canopy zip line adventure, a first for me. Some of the last lines were looong… and boy it took some concentration to nail the “landings.”  We timed the trip to the airport home to be able to hike in a national park for a couple of hours. Even though this sounds like an intense exercise weekend believe me we enjoyed our food, drink and r&r time too. It is the first real vacation, albeit only 3 days, that I just had a “fun” agenda. Thankfully Marj and Deb were on the same page.

Sunday, September 11th, the 15th anniversary of 9-11, brings to mind how an act of terrorism has changed our lives forever. I remember getting ready for work and Tommy, Tom’s son calling, which was expected as it was his Dad’s birthday. Instead of birthday greetings he told us to turn on the TV and we watched in horror as the second plane plowed into the South Tower and subsequent planes into the Pentagon and a corn field in Pennsylvania. The tragedy was the largest loss of life on American soil since Pearl Harbor. The days following were filled with images of people jumping from windows and running, shoeless, from the scene. Not to mention the police, firefighters and citizens who rushed into the burning buildings to save as many people as possible. As I said a prayer for those lost, their families and for our great nation I thought to myself that we are living in the land of the free and home of the brave. I said another prayer, one of thanks.

Finally the road coming into the Town Center is being repaired. We’ve been promised that it will only take a month and there is easy access via Grand River, Crown Drive (off Novi Road by Kim’s Gardens, hang a left and your at our front door) or Crescent Blvd. that is now 2 lanes vs. 4. Enter our parking lot by Hobby Lobby. The alternate routes are easy and well thought out. Bear with us, the result will be awesome.

Sharon and crew have their usual Incredible Chalk Board Features. For Starters 6 Alaskan Crab Claws with Old Bay dipping Sauce; Roasted Pacific Halibut over Artichoke Basil Orzo Pasta with Crispy Prosciutto; Veggie Mexican Bowl layered with Brown Rice, Corn, Black Beans, Enchilada Sauce and Queso Fresco; Grilled Bistro Filet Served with 3 Cheese Gratin and DJB Zip Sauce and Lastly a Ruby Red Trout Dusted With Hazelnut Flour, Sautéed and Accompanied with Shredded Brussels Sprouts and a Bourbon Butter Sauce.
