February 11, 2022
And, another fine week it has been. We are all thankful to be well health-wise and business-wise. The cold weather and snow of late has definitely affected us but we plugged through and enjoyed a really busy weekend with the RV Show at the Suburban Showplace. I can’t believe the people that are into RV-ing. Is that a word? Best of all were the “newbies” I got to meet thanks to our #1 rating on several social media sites. What a treat to get to tell our history and to have people really interested in a 68 year old business that originated in Detroit. I am so excited to share the story of a little 65 seat bar that back in the day had a line waiting for a seat. There wasn’t any outside seating and you literarily waited in a line if there wasn’t room at the bar. Back then the menu consisted of the famous Diamond Jim or Charlie Brown burgers, a daily soup selection, Caesar Salad, still Michigan’s best, or my all-time favorite the Lillian Russell Shrimp salad with the sweet and sour mustard dressing, a tuna sandwich and lots of “no’s.” No fries, no fish and chips, no dessert… Just booze and a good solid minimalized menu. More importantly was, and still is, the commitment to hospitality.  How fortunate I’ve been to be a part of a Detroit dynasty and for the grace of God that we’re still here through many thick and thin times.

Here we go Super Bowl 56. There is no way we can’t wish for Matt Stafford and his LA Rams to win this one in the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles against the Cincinnati Bengals. This is Stafford’s first season with his team and quarter back Joe Burrow’s 2 season with the Bengals. Both players were #1 draft picks, Matt in 2009 and Joe in 2020. It is only the 2nd time in league history that two #1 draft picks will face off. The Bengals have never won a Super Bowl so there’s a lot on the line for them. And, as a side fun fact, there will 3 men; all in their 80’s attending who have been to all previous Super Bowls. Pretty neat. There are millions of dollars spent on snack foods, pop and beer. “BIG GAME” day is the second largest of food consumption after Thanksgiving.

Exciting news…we will be celebrating Sunday with our first employee party in 2 years. Bus leaves at 11:15. Wonder what we’re doing? Where are we going? I’ll fill you in next week…

Remember your valentine with us over the weekend. St. Valentine lived in Rome during the rule of Emperor Claudius. Claudius wanted to have the largest army I in the world and thought that by making marriage unlawful he’d get more young men to join-up. Fr. Valentine secretly married couples until he was caught and sentenced to death. While in prison he was befriended by the guard’s daughter who spent many hours visiting with him. On the day of his death February 14, 269 AD, he wrote her a note thanking her and signed it Love Valentine. He is the patron Saint of Love. Over a billion cards are sent every year with teachers receiving the most.

Sharon and crew have some great Valentine’s Chalkboard Features Per Se.
