GREETINGS FROM THE BISTRO!!

And, another fine week it has been.  I had a great visit to the “Arb” in Ann Arbor on Sunday with a friend. We walked, and walked, and walked. The gardens are very cool, very low-key, very Mid-Western. Lots and lots of grasses and indigenous plants. Choices of easy or challenging trails abounded. I absolutely loved seeing the diverse crowd ranging from students to those on canes and lots of canine friends getting their daily exercise.

Niki and Pico and I just snuck a quick between-the-rain walk in. My sweet Pico had his teeth cleaned Monday and had to have a few extractions. I am a freaky dog mom and was sure he’d have an issue of some sort but, being the tough guy he is all went well. Not one pain med, not a whine; just sleepy from the anesthetic for a few hours. His big treat is “soft” food vs. kibble. He is digging it. I’ll pay for the weaning off in a few days—think about eating steak or cereal… A no-brainer in the doggie world.  The Z boy is great and we’re gearing up for our regional competition in a few weeks. He is a master at them, it is my first. I trust that he’ll make me look good. My 80 something groom Courtney and her sister Grace had Z-Z all cleaned up and ready to go when I walked into the barn yesterday. Courtney is amazing… all I need to do is pick his feet and throw the saddle on. She brushes and loves him before I get there cajoling him with carrots and apples. Z nuzzles and kisses her. Court and Z are spiritually bonded. He loves her so much and, it has much more to do than his treats.

Chalkboard Features include the last of the season Soft Shell Crabs, Tempura Battered and presented with Cheddar Grits; Meaty Baby Back Ribs served with Sweet Potato Fries and Lake Superior Cornmeal Crusted Walleye over a Bed of Brown Rice Pilaf with a Rustic Heirloom Tomato Sauce. There is also a Caprese Salad with Yellow Tomatoes from Welcher’s farm in Novi layered with fresh Mozarella and from Mary’s Milford garden Sage whirled into Pesto. YUM!!

We are approaching Labor Day and the “official” end to summer. The first celebration of this Federal Holiday was held in 1882. It is considered a day of rest and celebrations. School starts on Tuesday and getting back into a routine with children will take a few weeks to play out. That is always a challenge. Good luck Mom’s and Dad’s. And, teachers too! We’ll be relaxing at our own parties on Monday so the Bistro is closed and will re-open Tuesday for regular hours. We wish you all a lovely, safe and restful holiday.

I close with some neat quotes that are relevant to the occasion and I look forward to visiting with you at the Bistro soon!

“My grandfather once told me that there were two kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was much less competition.” Indira Gandhi

“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” Thomas Jefferson

“By working faithfully eight hours a day, you may eventually get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day” Robert Frost

“Choose a job you love, and your will never have to work a day in your life.” Confucius

“It’s a Million Dollar Day”
