Happy New Year from the Bistro!

WELCOME TO THE BISTRO!!!

And, another fine week it has been! Other than the obvious…below zero temperatures that are dangerous to humans and animals alike. I can’t imagine being homeless ever but in this weather especially. Say your prayers for them. Lots and lots of prayers…

The Christmas “break” from the Bistro was busier than working! I had 13 family on Saturday, then Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day brunch with my sister Jo, her family and my Mom. My mom spent Christmas night at my house and we had fun visiting and movie watching. As we head toward the New Year I think back to the best Christmas’s I’ve had. For me, they were as a young child in Buffalo. The tree was packed with gifts, only because there were 9 of us, and the anticipation going to bed Christmas Eve was overwhelming. But, what I remember more were the times spent at each of my grandparent’s homes. My dad’s mother, Grandmother Smith, no grandma for her please, was a meticulous decorator and package wrapper. My mom would dress us up and we’d sit “nicely” while gifts were handed out. We were never rowdy in the Smith house, although, my grandfather, Grandpa, would love to “get us goint” much to Grandmother’s chagrin. He was a Colonel in the Army, a mounted officer, and getting down and dirty was not a problem for him. Then we’d head to my mom’s family home. OMG what a difference. The house was not large but there would be 40-50 aunts, uncles and cousins packed in. We’d have a lovely meal, eating in shifts. The food was hot and fresh each round. All of it cooked on a beautiful Chambers stove with only 3 burners and an oven that was have the size of those we are used to. There were no physical “gifts” just the joy of time spent with loved ones. I have that stove in my kitchen and count my blessings that my father moved it from Buffalo for me when the Edick house was sold. It certainly has a much quieter life now but oh, those memories. I’m fortunate that I was afforded the opportunity of experiences, the formal and the casual. They each are components of my “soul being.” I was loved unconditionally by all my grandparents. That is the greatest gift ever, the happy moments with those I love. I cherish the joy I share and treasure the special people who enrich my live not only during the holiday but year round.

We are taking reservations for New Year’s Eve and Sharon and crew have a great menu, see below, in the works. And, we’re giving the Bistro a day of rest so we’re closed New Year’s Day.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE BISTRO,
HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR AND MAY ALL YOUR DAYS BE MILLION DOLLAR ONES!!!

XO, Mary, Niki, Pico, Picasso and Z
