WELCOME TO THE BISTRO!!!
And, another fine week it has been. My pack of pups is digging being outside again now that the heat wave has broken. Niki just splays out on the warm asphalt and Pico, along with Maddie follow me around as I do my garden and grass duties. It is interestingly to me that Maddie has never had the freedom to roam but now, having the opportunity, rarely goes far. She loves wandering through the woods, close to home, but is happy to hang with her “seniors” Niki and Pico as they bask in the sun.  Both of my big boys are so glad to be out of the barn and in lush green pastures, both thanks to the rain.  My rides with Z have been pretty incredible and Liz and Picasso the same. We, pups and horses, are very glad for the incredible weather over the last few days.

We were lucky to be by-passed by the power outage at the restaurant. There were businesses across the street out for days.  I feel for them as I’ve been in that situation twice and it isn’t fun. If the freezers and walk-in go below safe temperatures everything goes into the dumpster. It then takes another day just to get food in and prepped before being able to open. My generator at home ran for almost 100 hours. I am an advocate for automatic power as I’m on a well and would be without water in addition to electricity.  I say a thank-you prayer every day knowing that a huge portion of the world’s population doesn’t have toilets, potable water, enough, or any food. Then, on top of that are in constant fear of their government, or lack of.  We are truly privileged.

Tuesday is the Feast Day of Blessed Solanus Casey, a humble and holy man. In 1929, four days after the stock market crash, he helped start the Capuchin Soup kitchen. Today the non-profit food and clothing bank serves 2,000 meals a day. Over 300,000 pounds of groceries and 30,000 pieces of clothing are given to the poor each month. He devoted his life to prayer and healing and was a patient and willing listener. Hundreds of people, from all over the world, come to see his tomb located at St. Bonaventure’s Monastery in Detroit. They leave tiny slips of paper with prayer requests atop his tomb. His legacy lives on and he is a model for the caring for those in need.

Sharon and crew have some Awesome Chalkboard Features once again. Bengin with a Refreshing DJB FIZZ of Champagne, Compari and Grapefruit Juice. For a Starter there is a CHILLED SHRIMP SALAD tossed with Citrus Vinaigrette, Avocado & Grapefruit in a Bibb Lettuce Bowl. A GRILLED TURKEY SAMMIE is Layered with Thinly Sliced Turkey, Blue and Gruyere Cheeses, Sliced Cinnamon Granny Smith, Fig Jam and Arugula on Grilled Multi-Grain Bread. BISTRO PLATES INCLUDE: CARNE GUISADA: Mexican Style Beef Stew Slow Cooked with Onions, Peppers, Potatoes, Short Rib Trim and Garlic in a Chipotle Tomato Gravy.
