Welcome to the Bistro!

And, another fine week it has been!  Niki, Pico and I are loving the weather today. It is so easy to be outside. We had a great walk and trek around the yard feeding the birds, picking up branches and just having a good old time. And the horse boys are starting to shed, a great sign of warmer weather. They never really grew a thick coat this year so they’ll probably “blow” the winter coat nice and fast. It takes a fair amount of elbow grease and a tool called a curry comb to get down deep and loosen the undercoat. In a few weeks there will be piles of  hair after a “beauty session.” Groom extraordinaire, Courtney, grooms both Z and Picasso 3 times a week. At a young 89 years old her “work ethic” is an inspiration. Not only for me but everyone else around the barn – inclusive of horses and dogs. Both of my horses love her. And she them.  They knicker the minute she walks in the barn and nudge and lick her as she works away on making them pretty. Could it have to do with the carrots and apples she brings??? I think it is more that they know how much she loves them and my two #1500 boys treat her with much respect and reciprocal adoration.

We had an awesome Valentine’s Day at the Bistro. I love working holidays as everyone is relaxed and in happy mode. My only regret was missing most of the Westminster Dog Show.  The German Shepherd Rumor, reserve champion last year, was the 2017 Grand Champion of 3000 contestants and over 200 breeds. This was only the second win for shepherds and the herding category in 141 shows. Named after Adel’s “Rumor Has It” the 5 year old is the 39th female to win Best in Show and after over 100 championship titles is now officially retired. Go Girl!!!

Monday is President’s Day a Federal Holiday so get your banking and mailing done today or tomorrow. Originally established in honor of our first President’s Birthday, George Washington on February 22, 1732 it became an official holiday in 1971. It is now celebrated on the third Monday in February to acknowledge him, “The Father of This Country.”
