Welcome to the Bistro!

Greetings from the Bistro!
December 17, 2021

And another fine week we have had. It has been very busy and we’ve learned, for the most part, how to get around the “new normal.” Carry-out orders, handling reservations and imposing time limits on tables have been the most challenging but we’ve figured out how to surmount what could be problems. We are all in awe of the amount of business that we are able to pump out of our little Bistro. Last year at this time we were still in partial lock-down and glad to be ringing up any sales at all. Now, we’re rocking and rolling like “the old days.” The most important part of it all is the incredible team that works seamlessly to order, prep, cook and serve hundreds of meals a day. I’ve said it many times but will bore you with it again; my kitchen crew is a well-oiled human machine that is incredibly talented and professional. And, the front-of-the house the same. I’d be “in the weeds” doing any of their jobs. Thank heavens I have the easy one…getting to visit with you. It is fun to talk about families, pets and life. We are honored to be on the top restaurant in the Novi area on social media sights and recently were voted Best Bistro in Detroit by Metro Times. We’re proud to be recognized and being such sure makes the hard work well worth it.

Pups and ponies have been happy with the nicer weather the last few days. It has been touch and go for some of the horses to get outside though because of the soft ground. If they have shoes there is a good chance one or another will come in without a shoe. When a 1500# horse is running around having fun their hooves sink inches into the muck and oftentimes come out minus a horseshoe which then requires an unscheduled visit from the farrier. It is pretty much protocol that you don’t ride a horse missing a shoe as they are un-balanced and not riding for a couple of days is not something any of us want. Maddie and Sophia got their holiday groom and are two beautiful girls. Pups, ponies and Bistro…what else could a person wish for?

I’m hosting my family’s Christmas party and am looking forward to having us all together. I’ve pulled out some family Christmas Cookie recipes and will do some baking. Grandmother Smith’s Walnut-Bourbon Balls and Aunt El’s Pecan Crispies are favorites. The Bourbon Balls are especially easy to prepare, requiring only six ingredients and no baking time. The Crispies are great all year but with the pecans especially decadent and rich for the holiday. I don’t put up a real tree but think about it now and then. Michigan ranks 3rd in the nation for the number of trees harvested, around 1.7 million. The industry employs nearly 1,000 people in over 300 communities. Like everything else, there is a shortage this year so, you may end up cutting your own.

Sharon and Crew have some great Weekend Features that will be posted later today. Check them out on the website.

My gratitude continues to abound for my great family, friends, co-workers and those of you who are so supportive of me, Sharon and our staff. Our doors are open and bills paid thanks to you. We can’t express our appreciation enough.

WE WISH YOU MANY MILLION DOLLAR DAYS
AND
LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE BISTRO!!!

XXOO,
Mary, Sharon, The Crew, Pups and Ponies
