And, another fine week it has been! I had the pleasure of a quick trip North, Glen Arbor to be exact, to visit with my friend Roz. The drive, which is a bit over 4 hours, was uneventful with nice weather and no traffic back-ups. The trees were leafless in some areas and full of magnificent color in others, just proving the variety of micro-climates in our great state. We visited several wineries, one of which, Shady Lane, we have their Coup De Blanc on our list. I really enjoyed the wines I tasted especially their Rose and Franc ‘n’ Franc, which is a blend of cabernet franc, merlot and blaufrankisch, a rare grape variety in the US that imparts flavors of raspberry with a touch of white pepper. We’ll feature that next weekend. Another winery, one of Roz’s favorites, but new to me, Chateau Fontaine had a great Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Look for them at the Bistro in the near future too. I was able to get in a great beach walk on Lake Michigan, just a stone’s throw from Roz’s front door, and ended up peeling off my jacket almost immediately as the breezes were light and warm. Needless to say some great food was enjoyed too! Niki, Pico and Z are all doing great. On occasion I will enlist the services of an Animal Communicator to do a “mental check” on my furry friends. I spent an hour last night “hearing” from them all. She likened Ziezo to a “little boy, eager to please.” He was very excited to talk to me and is having so much fun as we progress along our path together. I can’t believe that it approaching a year that he and I have become partners on a journey that has been amazingly wonderful. He is so happy and has no complaints other than he’d like me to hang out more after our rides. He loves Courtney saying that she glows and has a beautiful heart and a large spirit. He feels nurtured when she talks to him. He makes a point to be gentle with her and likes it when she gives him kisses (he told on you Courtney!!!) and is happy to oblige with nuzzles back. The pups are great too. Pico loves being part of the family and appreciates how I take care of him and Niki. He in turn takes it very seriously to be the protector of the house and, although a gentleman, is proud to be on the “look out” and has high standards to do so. Niki too is very happy and loves her brother “even though Pico is rough around the edges he is my best friend.” I am happy too guys... and, I so enjoyed our chat last night. Life is good! Greg is in charge of the Chalkboard Features this weekend and has some great specials. As a Starter there are Cornmeal Crusted Fried Maryland Oysters; Pan Roasted Florida Grouper Drizzled with a Coconut Curry Sauce; Short Ribs slowly Braised in Red Wine and Served with Garlic Mashers and a Sauté of Fresh Corn and Swiss Chard and last, but not least, Aortic Char, think flavor profile between Salmon and Trout, topped with a Dijon and Pretzel Crust and Presented over Cheddar Grits.
