Welcome to the Bistro!

And, another fine week it has been. The Bistro is glowing after her "face lift." We love the new look, although, you will find it hard pressed to notice all the changes as they meld together perfectly. The nicest part is the up-grades to the patios making them much softer and cozier. We've been fortunate to be able to use them, comfortably, year round and if the weather stays this mild we are "in like flint." Speaking of weather, what a magnificent few days we've had. I've been riding Z in the outside arena all week and the pups want to "keep on walking" rather than head back for home. They love running and playing in the deep leaves and could spend hours in the woods exploring and sniffing under the blanket of fallen colors. I'm right beside them as a beautiful fox went waltzing by my window the other day. I know Pico would take off in hot pursuit if he saw another creature on "his" property. He has no fear, which is not a good thing when it comes to wild carnivores...

Sharon and I decided to take advantage of being closed last Sunday and took the staff, via bus, on a mystery trip. I think just about everyone knows of Zingerman's in Ann Arbor but not a lot know of their training arm of the business, Zing-Train. Our first destination was their training facility and we spent the next two hours having our own personalized seminar "The Art of Giving Great Service." The really cool thing was that we had front and back of the house all together and so each side got the same perspective on what constitutes building a culture of great service and how important everyone's role is to the end result. It was a mind blowing experience for all of us and we were reminded how much respect and care we have for each other not only personally but as it relates to taking attention to details in our role to provide a pleasurable experience for you. Afterwards we enjoyed a great lunch at Zingerman's Road House which was icing on the cake, so to speak.

Remember that Wednesday is Veteran's Day a celebration honoring fellow Americans who have served our country in the military. They have protected our greatest blessing, that of freedom. Our Constitutional rights and the fight for world peace are strengthened daily thanks to them. May we be thankful for their service.

And Tuesday marks the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the 729 foot iron ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior. The sinking killed the entire crew of 29 and sparked months of investigations as to what went wrong and a woeful song harmonized by Gordon Lightfoot.

Sharon and crew have some great ChalkBoard Features including Lake Superior Walleye Presented with a Roasted Butternut Squash, Apple, Bacon and Kale Ragout; slow Braised Lamb Stew chock-full of Celery Root, Carrots, Leeks and served Over Barley Risotto; Roasted Florida Grouper Accompanied with Cheddar Mashers and a Smoked Hollandaise and Vegetarian Pasta: Macaroni tossed with Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce and a medley of mushrooms and Sun-dried Tomatoes. We also have two lovely Michigan Wines - Chateau Fontaine's Woodland White and Chardonnay from Leelanau. YUM!!!

MAY ALL YOUR DAYS BE MILLION DOLLAR ONES!!

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE BISTRO.

XO, MARY
