Welcome to the Bistro

AND, ANOTHER FINE WEEK IT HAS BEEN…
The weather has sure been beautiful one day and downright ugly the next. I was riding outside on Monday, walking the pups, just enjoying the morning and turning on the AC that afternoon at the Bistro. Then, the rains came. I’m lucky to have a skylight in my bedroom and love the pounding of the drops as they meet with the glass. I always wish I could just spend the day in bed when the rain-music is so lovely. Read a book, snuggle with the pups. This is nearly impossible to happen so I love the extra 15-20 minutes I allow myself to be lazy and rub Niki and Pico’s tummies. The ponies, P and Z, have not been able to get out the last few days as the pastures are under water but they’ve both had some nice inside workouts. Z and I are gearing up for our next season of competition and P and my sister Liz continue to bond.   They are both kind and eager to please but it is always on my mind to be aware and careful. The slightest thing can spook P and Z, although much mindfully calmer, can be startled by a new stream of sunlight in the arena that wasn’t there 2 minutes ago. He’ll chill in a minute with a few “good boys” and on we go. I’ve learned over the years, and on different horses, that one rule usually applies...your horse will look where you do. So, if it is something “scary” or different they’ll react to your body language. If I keep my focus between Z’s ears and his butt engaged and moving forward at a good pace all is good. I’d trust him with anyone on his back or on the ground. As can be documented with my dear friend and groom Courtney, soon to reach the ripe age of 90. Both horses are very calm with her. They love her and know that she loves them too. Interestingly she needs to groom Z in cross ties where he is fairly restricted with his movement and P she can just go in the stall and walk around with him. Considering their individual temperaments it should be just the opposite. Both are #1500, 5’6” at their shoulder and she is 5 foot at tops. The horses along with my pups for me and Courtney’s kitty Lucy for her are our “shrinks.” We’re lucky girls.

Monday marks 6 years in our “new” Bistro. How time has flown. Sharon and I look back on the whirlwind 9 months from lease signing to opening the doors and wonder how in the world did we manage it? There have been many, many great accomplishments to celebrate over the years and we are very appreciative of our outstanding staff and their contribution to our success. And a HUGE thank-you to all of you for supporting, and appreciating, our efforts. We look forward to many more Million Dollar Days!!!
Thanks for your donations to the pet pantry. Many, many people and furry friends appreciate it.

We send out prayers to those affected by the horrific fires in California and to the loss of life, human and animal, and property. And, continued thoughts to the people affected by the hurricanes. God speed their recovery.

Sharon and crew have some great Chalkboard Features Per Se. The Oyster Appetizer went over so well last week it is on Again – Six Fried over Corn Relish with Spicy Remoulade for Dipping.
