Welcome to the Bistro!

And, another challenging, but better week it has been. It is so nice to be open inside again even with a limited number of guests. Last weekend was crazy and having a “full house” was stressful as reservations for 4 came with 6 people, others went over their allotted time pushing the next reservation behind and getting butts out of seats at 9:45 to comply with the 10PM curfew was arduous. I felt like the managers of bars at MSU that had to “kick us out” at 2AM by blasting on the overhead lights and ushering us to the door. I didn’t like that part of my job last Friday and Saturday.  Oh well, just one more pandemic lesson learned. The patios are at capacity even in this cold. If you bring a blanket for your legs it is pretty bearable. Tonight, Thursday, the inside, one patio and a half of the other were at capacity and it’s 14 degrees out. Think what will happen when it is warm and we’re back to 100%? Holy smokes, watch out!!!

Kudos to my awesome kitchen team, you rock. They handled the additional inside seating and the heavy carry-out. The same for the front of the house crew. They are so on-spot. I am very, very grateful for my fortunate business situation and thankful for everyone who has supported all of us through the trials and tribulations of the last year and the joys of the last 67 years.
Remember Sunday is Valentine’s Day. St. Valentine lived in Rome during the rule of Emperor Claudius. Claudius wanted to have the largest army I in the world and thought that by making marriage unlawful he’d get more young men to join-up. Fr. Valentine secretly married couples until he was caught and sentenced to death. While in prison he was befriended by the guard’s daughter who spent many hours visiting with him. On the day of his death February 14, 269 AD, he wrote her a note thanking her and signed it Love Valentine. He is the patron Saint of Love. Over a billion cards are sent every year with teachers receiving the most.

Next week is big.. Monday is President’s Day and a Federal Holiday so get your banking and mailing done ….Originally established in honor of our first President’s Birthday, George Washington on February 22, 1732 it became an official holiday in 1971. It is always celebrated on the third Monday in February to acknowledge him, “The Father of This Country.” And Tuesday, Mardi Gras or, Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent which is the start of 40 days of fasting ending on Easter Sunday. First held on March 3, 1699 in celebration of French explorers who landed near present day New Orleans it is, in the non-Covid era , days of parades and “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL…
