Mary's Blog and Sharon's chalkboard features - February 28, 2020
And another fine week it has been. All my furry buds are holding their own. Picasso and Z actually got a few days out to pasture when it was warm early in the week but now, with the snow and ice yuck, there is no way. And, I know that it is going to get warm in the next few days but that only means quicksand mud. If your horse has shoes, mud is a major enemy. Think of it this way, 1500# horse, feet sinking in, feet pulling up, voila… no shoe/s. Then, no riding until farrier can come put the shoe back on because the horse is out of balance. Thank heavens Z and P are ridden on a regular basis and can at least get some fun time under saddle. My little Florida dog, Maddie, is finally becoming used to the snow. I’ve tried, to no avail, to fit her with boots. Three different styles and three adamant “no’s” from her. My next try is sandwich baggies topped with baby socks. Will let you know…

I have had a very cultural last few weeks. My sister Jo and I went to see ROADSIGNS at the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea. The play was written by Jeff Daniels and has two settings, a coffee house folk club in January 2020 and a bus going north through central Illinois in July 1978.  There are 8 actors who flashback between the 2 places. Music was created by Jeff and his son Ben. It was very good. Then, last week, Roz and I did a real stretch and went to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Planet Ant Theater in Hamtramck.  Neither of us had heard of either the show or the “Ant” as it is lovingly referred to by dedicated followers. Well, what a show…the story of a transsexual drag queen rock singer based on the book by John Cameron Mitchel. A tribute to 1970’s David Bowie glam rock. It was so fun. Kind of a small version of Rocky Horror. I would definitely see it if it comes around again. Then, the movies, Judy, which was eerily surreal. I felt like I was watching Judy Garland. That is how good Renee Zellweger is. What a sad story of a brilliant woman who was brought down by the evils of Hollywood in that day. Another stand-out and my favorite so far is the Peanut Butter Falcon. I won’t expound…it is very moving, just watch it!

We’re in a leap year which occurs every 4 years according to the Gregorian calendar, the standard calendar of most of the world. Most years that are multiples of 4 are leap years and in that year February 29th is leap day. It occurs to help synchronize the calendar year with the solar year, or the time it takes the earth to orbit around the sun, which is about 365 ¼ days.

Sharon and Crew have some Awesome Chalkboard Features Per Se. Sean’s in really early to prepare with Sharon’s guidance. Bistro Plates Include:  CHILEAN SEA BASS:  MSC, i.e. Sustainable, Clean & Wild Caught Bass Pan Roasted with Potato Mashers, Sugar Snap Beas and Basil Cream;  CANADIAN WALLEYE : Hazelnut Crusted and Sautéed with Broccolini and A Bourbon Brown Sugar Baked Sweet Potato; GRILLED VEGGIE PLATE:  Marinated Portobello Mushroom, Eggplant, Charred Red Onion, Roasted Cauliflower and Grilled Zucchini  with an Almond Red Pepper Romesco Sauce and RAINBOW TROUT:  Filled with Lobster Corn Bread Stuffing, Pan Fried and Presented with a Root Vegetable Puree ,  Crispy Shoestrings and Lobster Tomato Broth.  YUM!!
