Mary's Blog and Sharon's chalkboard features  - May 31, 2019

And, another fine week it has been!! The holiday flew by and we should be well on our way into summer…only one problem, the rain. I don’t ever remember this much precipitation and it looks like it’ll continue on and off this weekend again. I literally cut my grass in-the-rain. Now I have a tractor full of grass cuttings that I need to address at some point. I had great plans to the veggie garden ready for planting and, weeding done over my time off but alas they’re still there. Pam, the owner of Deer and Gardens, who does our beautiful planters, will assist along with her awesome crew as there is just too much now to even catch up. Under normal conditions, if I make the rounds from flower bed to flowerbed over a 3 week period I can keep up without too much effort. Now, all bets are off.

All the furry friends are status quo. The pups run in and out very fast to “do their business.” I bundle up with an umbrella and sometimes have to even pick them up and take them out onto the grass. Z and P have had it with being stall bound and look forward to a couple warm and windy days to dry them out. I’m not willing to risk injury or losing a shoe in the deep muck.
Rain, Rain go Away!!!

June 6th, Thursday, marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Allied troops in Normandy, France during World War II.  General James M. Gavin, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers warned his men that “When you land in Normandy you will have only one friend, God.” The largest amphibious invasion in history consisting of over 7,000 vessels and 130,00 men, half from the US, the others from Canada, Britain and Free French forces.  50,000 vehicles and 11,000 planes were involved in the assault along a 50-mile stretch of the Normandy coast, the first successful opposed landing across the English Channel in over 8 centuries.  The operation began with overnight parachutes and glider landings with the amphibious landings taking place in the early AM hours. Only 10 days were suitable for the landings as the moonlight and spring tides were essential to its success. At the end of five days almost 10,000 Allied soldiers were killed, wounded, missing or captured. Estimates of German casualties were similar and they suffered one of their biggest defeats of the war. What a privilege be the recipient of the freedom won by those brave men and women.  I’m very thankful.

An American Gold IRA is a type of Individual Retirement Account that allows investors to hold physical gold (and other precious metals) as part of their retirement savings. This type of IRA is designed to provide a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty by adding tangible assets like gold to the retirement portfolio. The gold must meet specific purity requirements and is typically stored in an IRS-approved depository.
