AND, ANOTHER FINE WEEK IT HAS BEEN...
Niki, Pico, Picasso and Z had a great holiday weekend as did I being able to spend some extra time with them all. On doggie walks we’ll go to the end of the road, about ½ mile, and “ask” Niki which way she wants to go. Usually it is back home. On Sunday though she headed left to the Kensington trail entrance just down from our lane and off we went. I was skeptical as she is about a mile-and-one-half girl at nearly 14 years old but followed along glad that she was willing and able. Pico is a gung-ho guy ready to follow his puppy partner anywhere. Niki pranced to the entrance and off we went on a 3 mile trek over hill and dale. Not easy by any means for dogs with 3 inch legs. And, since it was later in the afternoon and a bit warm that was challenging for my little girl. She made it slowing down at the end and both slept well and were happy for a different outing. Picasso got a couple of good workouts with my sister Liz and Z and I had great invigorating rides that made me, and him, very happy. He is a horse that likes to please and is very talented and well trained so it is a delight to partner with him.  The routine goes like this: I walk into the barn and both Z and P know I’m there and get their treats, P usually goes out right away to play with his buds in the pasture and Courtney and I groom Z and saddle him up. Courtney and I work as a team. I hoist up the saddle, way too heavy for her, but from that point Court puts the girth on and tightens it,  counts out the sugar cubes for treats that I dole out after Z and I are finished riding, makes sure his tail and mane perfect and off we go. We all, horses, pups and women, consider our time together very precious and special.
On the “human” side I had a nice visit with my Mom and sister’s Liz and Jo. We had a yummy little nosh, some laughs and good conversation.  I made my best and longest time bud, JoAnn, a simple dinner on Labor Day and we nixed the walk we had planned due to the heat but had a good time just hanging out.  And, a highlight of the weekend was Amanda’s baby shower. It was so, so nice. She looked beautiful, well, she is and the food and company was lovely. It’s so great to get together outside of work and catch up on everyone’s family. I love it and wish we’d do it more often.
Tuesday, the 17th anniversary of 9-11 brings to mind how an act of terrorism has changed our lives forever. To this day I remember vividly the call from Tommy that morning, thinking it was to wish his father happy birthday, only to hear him say “turn on the TV” and subsequently watch the second plane plough into the South Tower and then successive planes into the Pentagon and a corn field in Pennsylvania.  This tragedy took the largest loss of life since Pearl Harbor.  I say a prayer for those lost, their families and for our great nation. And, a prayer of thanks for the privilege to live in the land of the free and home of the brave.
Sharon’s out front for the weekend so Sean is in charge of the Chalkboard Features. For a Starter there are Rueben Egg Rolls Filled with Corned Beef, Swiss and Sauerkraut, Fried and Served with 1000 Island for dipping. Bistro Plates Include an Oyster Po’Boy –Cornmeal Flour Dusted Oysters on a Toasted Hoagie with Tabasco Dijonaise, Lettuce and Tomato; Michigan Perch Sautéed and Presented with Roasted Idaho Potato Wedges and a Cool Cabbage, Granny Smith Apple and Cashew Slaw; Bistro Filet Grilled, Sliced and Accompanied with Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Broccolini and House Made B-54 Sauce; Bahn Mi Shrimp Tacos Full of Golf Shrimp Tossed in Thai Peanut Sauce, Crunchy Slaw and Brown Rice; and, for Dessert a Pretzel Brownie Topped with Guernsey Vanilla Ice Cream and a Drizzle of Warm Caramel Sauce. YUM!

XO,
