Welcome to the Bistro!

And, another fine week it has been.  The Bistro has been bustling with lots of holiday parties and gatherings. From the amount of gift bags that I’ve seen the holiday shopping season should end up being a good one. I hosted my family on Sunday for our Christmas get-together. We had a great time and a wonderful visit. I wish we’d do it more often. Niki and Pico are always glad for the company and get passed from lap to lap. They’ve always got those sad feed-me eyes fixed on who ever looks like they’ll break my “don’t feed the dogs” rule. It is hard not to give them table treats but since they are not used to them their tummies are easily upset. Guess who pays the price if that happens? I’m such a mean mom. Picasso and Z are digging the milder weather as they missed a few days going out due to the frigid temperatures and blowing wind. I have not missed a ride though as the barn is almost never under 20 degrees as the day progresses. Life is good.

Happily the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, and the first day of Winter has come and gone. We’re on our way to Spring. It is also the time when the Sun reaches its southernmost point in the sky and a gradual cooling process will continue for the next two months sending temperatures to their lowest. Christmas Eve, tomorrow, is widely observed as a holiday in anticipation of Christmas day. Both days are considered to be the most significant celebrations in Christendom and Western society.  And, this year Christmas Day is also the first day of Hanukkah a Jewish holiday celebrated for 8 days and nights. Gift giving is a part of both and I always like to remind myself that there are many ways to share other than a physical present. The gift of listening, really listening is so valuable. Put away the phones and have a conversation. The gifts of laughter, giving a well meant compliment and being of cheerful and generous with your hugs. We often get so wrapped up in getting ready for the holiday that we forget that the best gifts we can give don’t cost a dime.

Sharon and crew have some Awesome Chalkboard Features Per Se. Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes are Presented with Creamed Corn, Wilted Spinach and Shoestring Potatoes.  Blackened Ahi Tuna Steak is Served Over Cheddar Grits with Braised Greens and Stewed Tomatoes and A Tender Bistro Filet is Grilled and Accompanied with Skinny Green Beans & Root Vegetable Gratin. For a Sweet we’ve Got Lemon Bars: Lemon Curd on a Shortbread Crust and a Scoop of Blood Orange Sorbet. YUM!!!

We’re taking limited reservations for New Year’s Eve. Note that there will be plenty of space left for those of you who just want to “walk-in.”  Our menu for NYE is not set in stone yet as Sharon likes to wait for bid sheets before finalizing it. I’ll bet that there will be Lobster, a special Steak and maybe I can talk her into Bouillabaisse.  I think that New Years Eve is my favorite day at the Bistro. The mood is happy and up-beat and fun. If we don’t see you remember that we’re closed New Years Day.

I wish you a Million Dollar Day, Merry Christmas and the Happy Hanukkah!

WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE BISTRO!!!

XO, Mary
