One Year Ago Today…

And, another fine week it has been.  Of course the big news is that we can open 100% starting Tuesday. It has been the trial of a life time. I love a challenge but this is one I’m happy to leave behind.  A favorite quote of mine from the book Illusions, The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach (Better known for Johnathan Livingston Seagull) is “Argue for Your Limitations and They Are Yours,” says it all. Sharon and I decided early on that our limitations weren’t going to stop us, and they didn’t. They only made us stronger and smarter.

And The Beat Goes On…

And today I can again quote Mr. Bach from the Messiah … “There Is No Such Thing as a Problem without a Gift for You in Its Hands. You Seek Problems Because You Need Their Gifts.”  All I can say to that is thank-you for the many gifts that have been bestowed to me throughout the thick and thin of what has been placed in my path. It has certainly made me, and, I know Sharon, the incredible team I am so fortunate to work with and you better in many ways. I will give thanks for my problems, they are few, and am grateful for my gifts for they are many.

My garden grows in leaps and bounds. I’m still harvesting lettuce on a regular basis and have some jalapeno peppers ready to pick. The tomato plants are close to 5 feet tall and have lots of buds. All the flowers and plants that surround me are beautiful.  Michigan is ranked second in the nation for its phenomenally diverse agricultural industry which includes asparagus, sugar beets, honey, corn, berries, apples, grapes, beans, stone fruit, potatoes and maple syrup. Additionally, the dairy industry, including milk and cheese, is a very important sector. There are 10 million acres of farmland in our state, 27% of the total land that produces over $71 billion, yes that’s BILLION, dollars per year. Much of our bounty is exported to other states and $1.6 billion is spent on the 1 million jobs that are supported by agriculture. These are some major statistics to consider as you wander the local farmer’s markets this year! Buy local, buy Michigan!

Sharon and Crew have some GREAT Chalkboard Features starting tonight.
